She sat near the window
on a Christmas Eve
her heart filled with sorrow
waiting for his return

And while the fire burned
she tried not to think
about why he hadn’t come home

For even though the war was over
his seat at the table remained empty
waiting for him
A war poem I wrote during english class. My teacher really liked it. I really don't like it that much, but I'm submitting it anyway, to see what other people think about it.

I wouldn't mind some images, because this poem doesn't seem to have any.

Also, changed the second return, the repetition brings the poem down.
